As leaders, we are constantly faced with the challenge of creating the best possible conditions for our teams to perform. But we know that all team members are unique and are at different stages in their development. This is where situational leadership comes into play!
Situational leadership is about adapting one's leadership style to each individual's needs and their current level of development. This means that you as a leader may need to be more coaching to an employee who is new to their role, while a more experienced person may need a delegating style to thrive. 🌱
✅ The four leadership styles within situational leadership:
A good way to think is to consider the following:
How aware is the person you're talking to about how important the "topic" is to the role?
How skilled is the person you're talking to in the "subject"?
1. **Instructional:** For those who are new or unsure of their role. Here, clarity and guidance are key.
2. **Coaching:** When the person has some experience but still needs support to develop.
3. **Supporting:** For those who have the skills but lack the confidence or motivation.
4. **Delegating:** For the experienced and independent - this is about giving freedom and responsibility.
By adapting your leadership to each individual's unique situation, you can not only increase motivation and commitment in the team, but also create better results! 💪
